About the project

This project will investigate evaluation of architectural aesthetics in building permit applications.

According to the Norwegian Planning and building act of 2008, effective since 2010, evaluation of architectural aesthetics is mandatory in all building permit applications. Evaluation of architectural aesthetics has been a part of architectural theory. Evaluation of architectural aesthetics in building permit applications, however, seems to be a new research area in an academic context. An ambition of this PhD project is to bring aesthetic awareness more firmly into the arena of building quality, through the looking glass of building permit applications.
