The ‘Good’ Arctic City – Researching urban space in Greenland

Participating in the Arctic Building and Construction project, we ask, “What is a good city under Arctic conditions?” Through fieldwork and interviews in Nuuk and other Greenlandic cities, researchers in the Arctic City research group collect and share relevant perspectives on urban space qualities for the development of urban space for the construction industry and the urban planning environment in Greenland – especially in connection with housing construction.

New PhD position: Nature-based solutions for climate change: upscaling landscape‐based climate mitigation and adaptation actions

The Institute of Urbanism and Landscape in collaboration with the Institute of Design at AHO offers a PhD position linked to a research project granted by the Research Council Norway named: NATURACT. This project seeks to develop three landscape-based transition plans utilising Nature-based solutions (NBS) in order to prevent and mitigate geohazard events primarly related to flooding in Norway.

New PhD position: Norwegian Urbanism

The Institute of Urbanism and Landscape, AHO offers a PhD position on Norwegian Urbanism. This research program studies urban development through the optics of urban form, based on a selection of case studies. The program specifically investigates how architectural and spatial approaches can constitute a common platform for different interests and actors, and support strategic planning processes and decisions. This research is based on European traditions of strategic planning as well as research built around architectural and landscape analysis and design understood as critical tools for understanding, exploring and solving complex planning challenges in cities and urban territories.

New PhD position: Arctic Resource Network

We call for a practice-based PhD in landscape architecture aimed at developing a local resource network in an Arctic community, specifically dealing with food or other local resources such as recycled building material.
