Callejas, Luis
Professor
Callejas is professor at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design and visiting professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He also founded LCLA office, an architecture and landscape architecture practice based in Oslo, Norway.
Previous visiting appointments include the Louis Kahn assistant professorship at Yale, lecturer in architecture and landscape architecture at Harvard GSD (2012-2016), visiting professor at the Escola da Cidade in Sao Paulo, visiting professor in Urban Design at the University of Toronto, and visiting professor in architecture at the Porto Academy. Callejas has been a frequent lecturer and guest critic at Harvard, ETH Zürich, USI Mendridisio, and MIT, among others in Europe and North America.
His completed works include the Aquatic Center for the IX South American games in Medellín and the renovation of the main stadium in Bogotá. In 2023 LCLA office was selected to develop future architecture and landscape projects for the Norwegian Scenic Routes program. Callejas has been nominated for the Royal Academy Dorfman Award in 2022 and 2023, the Mies van der Rohe Prize for architecture in Europe, and the Mies Crown Hall for Architecture in the Americas. In 2016 Callejas was a finalist in the Rolex Mentor and Protege program, and in 2013, winner of the Architectural League of New York award for young architects. In 2020, Callejas received the Patrik Geddes fellowship at the University of Edinburgh.
Callejas is the author of Pamphlet Architecture 33 (Princeton Architectural Press, NY). The competition for PA33 asked previous authors in the series to nominate the architects and theorists whose work represents the most exciting design and research in the field today. Other books include a monograph on his work, “LCLA office,” Edited by Giacinto Cervieri Ed Libria, Melfi, Enclosures: Andrea Branzi and Luis Callejas (Arkitektfaglig Presse, 2022), Translations: Günter Vogt and Julius von Bismarck (Arkitektfaglig Presse, 2022) and is co-editor of Pedagogical Experiments in Architecture for a Changing Climate (Routledge, 2023)
Callejas’ works have been exhibited recently at the first Chicago Architecture Biennial, the 2016 Lisbon Triennial, the 2016 Oslo Architecture Triennial, the 2019 Seoul architecture biennale, 2022 Versailles Biennale and the 2018 and 2021 Venice Biennials. The permanent collection at the Carnegie Art Museum acquired some of the office’s works in 2021.
